smooth sailing

Day 3 - Tuesday 26th August 2014
Dalby to Hervey Bay
day's total  419.3 kms

The beast has been behaving and running smoothly today… (after getting its old tyres put back on).

A school visit in Kumbia  -
Princess Ailssa and Oliffe were there…the kids just loved us….lucky Oliffe didn't melt!

the kids lined up to play in the car and operate the siren...
Excitement on the track … and the FJ Holden catches fire!!
All the plastic bits melted...
The boot was unpacked in a hurry...
Lunch at Goomeri and the pit crew go to work on the FJ … needles to say it was up and running again and made it to Hervey bay.

A little bit of circle work! ..Not me at the wheel.. this time!
The Bat mobile also made a recovery and was back on track .. even if its radiator is held together with putty…and the bull bar is a little bent!

This is a bush to beach trek … so Mr Rally Driver and I get ready for the beach!
complete with surfboard..

Chanel 7 came to film us...
And we made the news…

 It was party night at Hervey Bay - a 1970's 1980's theme….
the scary thing is.. I could just grab something out of the wardrobe!.. And I really had hair like this in 1980 (only not blond!!)… Mr floss had hair too!!

 Jake and Elwood were there...
Lots of great outfits…Batman and Robin looked a little different

It was a laugh!

cheers

Happy Days!

Day 2 - Goondiwindi to Dalby
today's total ..399.2 km

After a very rocky start yesterday… today turned out to be much better!
…...just a recap of Day 1

We were farewelled by Captain Starlight and Captain Starlight in Armidale NSW
Lunch at Delungra, found us at the local servo doing repairs… even the local policeman chipped in and was on the hunt for a new diff for us!!
Once on the road again.. only 1hour after the last car… we got bogged!….then lost!
(not totally nav girls fault… the Garmin lost service!)
But finally we limped into Goondiwindi QLD after dark!
What a lovely town… just wish I had time to explore… and visit a certain bird on the border…but alas we were worn out!! .. I'll have to come back!

Leaving Goondi today we had roads like this….
 Then roads like this!!….

There were dingo gates to open… and close

A school to visit…. Kindon State School.. with 11 pupils

Can you guess who I am??
A few donuts on the oval….at the principal's request would you believe!.. the kids loved it!
Then onto Millmerran for lunch…. poor Batman and Robin had a little mishap and needed a tow
Cecil Plains had a hotel we just couldn't go past without stopping for a drink!
Then arriving in Dalby it was straight to the tyre shop for 2 more new tyres…unfortunately some poor advice and we drove away with tyres that are too big!… so tomorrow we will start the day with a visit to the tyre shop again!!!…. lets just hope we make it to the starting line in time at 8am!
 Dalby countryside….Very flat!!
So we are now back on trek and tomorrow we head for the coast and Hervey Bay
Till my next report
Cheers
Floss or should I say Nav Girl??

On the road again!

Car 57 hits the road again'
The "beast" has been dusted down, ( though I don't know why?)...checked over, lubed up (??) and is about to hit the road again on another Trek 4 Kidz with the Starlight Foundation.

I had to remove the V... We are no longer virgin trekkers!!....our last trek in 2012 can be found somewhere in my past posts!
We went to outback NSW, bottom corner QLD, down the Strezlecki track in SA, and crossed the border to Vic!...all in a week.

This year it's a Bush to Beach trek starting in Armidale, heading north to QLD through Goondawindi, Caboolture, Harvey Bay, Tenterfield and finishing in Woolgoolga next weekend.
So keep an eye out for us!.... We might be coming to a town near you!

Unfortunately I can't stitch on this trip...it's all dirt roads, (living in a cloud of dust all week.....That's inside the car!)

And ... I have to concentrate on the navigating (she who must be obeyed).
With instructions like BHR....BBT...SO...!!!... That's, bear hard right... Bloody big tree...straight on...and triple caution,

I also operate the CB radio to warn other drivers about hazards such as oncoming traffic...kangaroos..cows ..sheep.... Big potholes, that eat cars..... Cattle ramps that catapult you into the air!....and generally just give a lot of cheek!

It's all fun fun fun... for a great cause too..
Check out the web site..trek4kidz.com...you can even donate if you'd like to!!
Let the fun begin!!!
We 're on our way to the start now.

Cheers

The last 2 days I enjoyed a great workshop with Wendy Williams who came to Maitland to teach at Southern Cross Needlework.
I loved working in wool felt.. and started a camel cushion … in memory of my NT experience.

I just loved all the yummy bright colours…my next mission is to make the animal quilt for a baby boy due in 9 weeks…..better get moving on that one!!

I've also been to Nundle in the last few weeks to have a Christmas in July workshop with the delightful Bonnie Sullivan.
Working with wool again we made a chatelaine and started a scarf.
