excuses excuses!!

I really have no excuse … time just flies… and I'm slack!

I've been very Busy.. doing workshops and going on retreats..starting lots of new projects and finishing none! ..going to the quilt show….I've also been renovating and painting pergolas, dog sitting…. the list goes on...

The last 2 days I enjoyed a great workshop with Wendy Williams who came to Maitland to teach at Southern Cross Needlework.
I loved working in wool felt.. and started a camel cushion … in memory of my NT experience.

I just loved all the yummy bright colours…my next mission is to make the animal quilt for a baby boy due in 9 weeks…..better get moving on that one!!


I've also been to Nundle in the last few weeks to have a Christmas in July workshop with the delightful Bonnie Sullivan.
Working with wool again we made a chatelaine and started a scarf.

...The Cassilis Quilters girls came for a night and we made rope bags

.. And its back to Nundle this weekend for an annual retreat... just because!
Can"t wait…fun fun fun… and a new project of course!

Spoilt Rotten!

A weekend retreat of a different kind found Mr Floss and Me in Central Australia.
We flew to Ayres Rock Resort and within 1/2 hour we were walking around Kata Tjuta (the Olgas)…. drinking champagne at sunset while watching the colours of the desert change on Uluru….then dining at a BBQ beside the famous rock!

Day 2 - a walk around the base of Uluru.... just 10 kilometres!! ...then another 2klms to catch our bus to another sunset viewing.

Day 3 - was my birthday, so.. before sunrise we were on a coach to Kings Canyon. (just a 3 hour drive)
What an Awesome day…walking the rim (only 6 klms this time) after a 500 step climb to the top!!
Another sunset on Uluru…Then dinner at Sails Resort topped off a fantastic day!

Day 4 - A quick walk out to the camel farm and a ride on a camel!… I want one!..I didn't realise how lovely and clever camels are! A baby called Milkshake wanted to suck our fingers. She was so cute!

One of the best things about having a birthday is having secret sewing sisters… and receiving lovely parcels of fabric!!  Thank you so much to those girls for spoiling me with delicious fabrics. (and other yummy treats)

I was sorry to miss the Chook Shed's birthday celebrations but I did manage some stitching on the plane and coach… It's amazing what we will do to get our stitching fix.
The only  souvenir  I bought was some aboriginal print fabric!!… I was pretty impressed to find fabric in the desert!!

 

I just don't know how I will top this birthday next year!!

Paper Piecing fun

Now for some stitching news….
My little class of english paper piecers at Finders Keepers are doing really well and coming up with some fantastic results.

Our first class we made hexagon cushions

Our 2nd class we fussy cut!

Then we used diamonds to make tumbling blocks

 

Pam has progressed from her L's and now has an EPP addiction!!

Last week we started making a bag using the quilt as you go technique.

 While some of the group are making hexagon bags.

I'll fill you in later with their results!

It looks fantastic in repro fabrics  - hasn't she done a great job!

I thought the girls at Finders Keepers were mad (or desperate) when they asked me if I would teach a class. But we have a lovely group of ladies and are having a lot of fun!
